Instead of printing a space, the printer beeped BACKSPACE= Move backwards 1 space (good for over lapping 2 characters) LINEFEED = Go down 1 line (usually used for Carriage return) FORMFEED = Eject the paper (this can waste a lot of paper) CARRAIGE RETURN=Go to the beginning of the line (good for over lapping 2 lines) STOP = Just like the PAUSE key GO = Most systems require ^Q after a ^S to go again EOF = ^Z is frequently used to mark the end of information (^D in unix) ESCape= This character signifies the beginning of SPECIAL ACTION CODES called ESCAPE SEQUENCES. For instance, if you send [2J to the screen, instead of printing a [2J on the screen, it will clear the screen. The printer would ignore or misinterpret the screen ESCAPE SEQUENCES, however, the printer has ESCAPE SEQUENCES for such things as the start of printing in italics. Each kind of device has it's own ESCAPE CODES.
